@Ben: I’ve got to agree to an extent. The actual content goes above and beyond any frustrations I had with the aesthetic design. I really think it’s a great book to have in a personal library.

I have to agree about the colour use here – it’s far too much. I would expect each author to have their own section, sure – but the lack of coherency looks amateurish. If you look at another book, The Zen of CSS Design, you’ll notice the sections each have their own colour palette, but it is not overbearing.

This is a very ‘look-at-me’ book – but for a practical volume that is meant to be used, thumbed through and scanned quickly, this implementation is totally unlike one that I would have expected.

However, the authors certainly deliver a great insight into developing with standards, so I bought it. If the content wasn’t as good as this I would have been put off.
