I remember using a word processor for the first time and being utterly amazed that it could check my spelling for me. I had no idea how it was doing things so fast. I was a young child without any knowledge of the inner workings of a computer, but I remember being amazed.

It turns out that it was actually an impressive technological feat as well. Contrast to today where spelling can be checked in just a few lines of code, as per the article.
